CPD offers tips for security during the summer

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Summer temperatures are rising and so are crime rates.

Columbus police say that as schools let out for the summer they've seen an increase in crimes by unattended kids.

Major J.D.Hawk says that parents should keep their kids active to help them stay out of trouble.

“Get them in a program, a summer program, or make sure you know where they're at and what they're doing," Maj.Hawk.

Hawk also says that we have to stop being the victim. He emphasizes that getting a home security system and keeping expensive items out of plain view can help stop crimes from happening.
