COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Local public safety officers were treated to some good southern barbecue on Wednesday.
The annual Public Safety Cookout was held outside the Midtown hospital. The Medical Center's staff served local EMS, police officers and firefighters lunch.
The cookout is their way of saying thank you for what they do.
"You know I think it's just recognizing them for what they do you know many times their jobs are very thankless. The police officers, the fire department, and the EMS you know they go out and do heroic work every single day," Kathy Homeyer said, Director of the Emergency Trauma and Pediatric Department.
The Midtown Medical staff served meals to about 500 first responders.
