COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Some people took time out of their Saturday to honor to those at a historic Columbus cemetery.
The fourth Annual Memorial Observance for Veterans who were buried at Porterdale Cemeteries was held Friday morning.
Adults and children placed American flags on the graves of veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Many members of the 24th Infantry Regiment of Fort Benning were also buried there.
One woman told us why it's important to honor those who are no longer with us.
"My motto is to help somebody that has no voice. They are often forgotten about by the community. People forget about the sacrifices they have given. So I just feel it's important you come out and show respect," Anthea Berry said, a memorial observer.
The event was organized by the Columbus Black History Museum and Archive.
