AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - On May 28, after a joint investigation by the Opelika Police Department and the Auburn Police Division, Dionte Lachase Person, 31, from Opelika, was taken into custody and has been charged with four counts of first-degree burglary, all of which are Class-A felonies.
Between May 6 and May 28, robberies were reported in the 1800 and 1900 blocks of Pepperell Parkway in Opelika, and the 1400 block of S. College Street as well as the 1800 block of Opelika Rd in Auburn.
During all of the incidents an unidentified suspect entered the business, brandished a weapon and demanded for the employees to relinquish money from the cash drawer and/or their person.
The suspect in each case was described as a black male, approximately 5'10" or 6' tall, wearing all black clothing with a black "bandana" like cloth around his face. The suspect was armed with a black handgun and took undisclosed amounts of US currency.
Video surveillance obtained after the incident reported on May 28 on South College revealed that the suspect departed the area in a blue compact vehicle.
The investigation by Opelika and Auburn Police as well as the State Pardons and Paroles developed Person as a suspect. Person was contacted by officers in Opelika, AL while operating the suspect vehicle. Upon being contacted evidence from the crimes was recovered from his vehicle.
Person was transported to the Lee County Detention Facility where he was further processed and a bond was set for $400,000. Additional charges are pending.
