COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A new film explores the relationship between African Americans and gay rights.
The documentary, "The New Black" was shown Friday morning at the Columbus Public Library.
Filmmakers say the movie explores homophobia in the black community and how African American churches are reacting to recent campaigns to legalize same sex marriage.
The film promoters say it's important to explore what it means to be black, gay, and Christian in America.
"We feel like it's an important intersection of history and an important intersection of movie building work that was unexplored. The film is also creating a new conversation about what it means to be all those identities and to move forward in the world in a complete way," Christina Black said.
The documentary, "The New Black" will be available on DVD and Video on Demand on June 2.
