Man found guilty in 2013 death of Lee Co. teen sentenced to 21 years

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - The family of high school student Andrew Pugh were in court as the judge sentenced their son's killer, Aubrey Weldon, to 21 years in prison, along with fines and court costs.

Back in March, a jury found Weldon guilty of reckless murder.

In August 2013, Weldon was under the influence of prescription drugs and alcohol when he left a dollar general store after trying to buy more beer, but his card was declined.

He was driving about 90 miles per hour on Lee road 270, when he blew by a stop sign, crossed the center line and hit Pugh's vehicle head on.

Andrew Pugh's mother, Jane Mungle, just gave an emotional victim impact statement and asked Weldon to be sentenced to the max.

"His family can visit him in prison. When I go to visit my son, I go to a graveyard," Pugh said.

Weldon also made a statement, saying: "I would give my life to take back what happened. I know I'm going to be punished, I just ask for leniency."

More details to come.
