Police: Lee Co. couple arrested after police find marijuana grow room inside home

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - A couple in was arrested by the Lee County Sheriff's Office, accused of trafficking marijuana and unlawful possession of a controlled substance after police discovered a grow room in the home.

Drew Robert Howell, 33, of Phenix City, was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Laura Michelle Satterwhite, 26, was arrested for disorderly conduct. Satterwhite is identified by law enforcement as Howell's live-in girlfriend.

Howell has been released from the Lee County Detention Facility after posting a $53,000 bond. Satterwhite was also released after she posted a $300 bond. The charges these two individuals are facing stem from the following events:

On May 31, at approximately 11:30 pm CT, the Lee County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a 911 call in reference to a domestic violence complaint call. Deputies arrived at the residence and discovered that Howell and Satterwhite had been involved in a dispute which had escalated into a verbal altercation which allegedly heard by neighbors.

While investigating this complaint, deputies noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the home. They conducted a search of the residence and discovered a marijuana grow room with marijuana plants in various stages of development, glassware containing marijuana, plastic storage bins containing marijuana, prescription medication, scales, smoking devices, approximately $500 in cash and other paraphernalia.

The marijuana seized in this case weighed a little over three pounds and has an estimated street value of more than $5,000.
