COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Traffic is still backed up on J.R. Allen Parkway after a truck carrying logs overturned earlier Thursday afternoon.
The westbound portion of J.R. Allen was shut down for a few hours after the truck crashed, creating a mess and backing up traffic up to the Bradley Park Drive exit.
Traffic is flowing again, but our crew on the scene reports there is still heavy traffic presence in the westbound lane. If you have to travel in that area, you might want to take an alternate route.
Work crews used chainsaws to cut up the logs and a giant metal claw to remove them.
Angel Welker says one of the logs from the truck hit her car. She says a Dodge Charger was weaving in and out of traffic.
Welker says the log truck driver swerved to avoid hitting the charger when he lost control and overturned.
"We were all going the speed limit," Welker said. "There was [a] stick sticking out here and it actually ended up getting underneath my car and then it went up and cracked my windshield."
The Dodge Charger did not stop following the accident. The driver of the logging truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
