Large fire consumes house in Green Island Hills

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A large house fire has taken place in Green Island Hills.

According to Fire Marshal Ricky Shores, the fire started around 4:22 p.m. in the midst of a storm that hit Columbus.

Once firefighters arrived on the scene located at the 700 block of Standing Boy Road, there was heavy smoke and fire in the attic of the home.

Fortunately, no one was at the residence, but there were two dogs inside the home. They were evacuated and unharmed.

One dog ran away during the fire and the other dog is still on site.

There are eight fire trucks still on the scene fighting the blaze and Fire Marshal Shores says the fire is under control.
