FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Fort Benning celebrated the Army's 240th birthday Friday afternoon by observing the oldest of traditions during a cake-cutting ceremony in McGinnis-Wickham Hall.
Fort Benning's oldest soldier, Lieutenant Colonel Ericson Rosca, made the first cut of the traditional birthday cake with Major General Scott Miller, Commanding General, Maneuver Center of Excellence vice Brigadier General.
Fort Benning's youngest soldier, Private Jackson Burn, made the second cut of the cake along with the Armor School Command Sergeant Major Michael Clemens.
The ceremony concluded with all those in attendance singing the "Army Song" and enjoying a slice of birthday cake.
The 240th birthday of the US Army is officially marked on Sunday, June 14.
