Kickboxing gaining popularity as a workout

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - If you're trying to get in shape to fit into those summer clothes or just want to improve your overall heath, fitness experts will tell you a cardio workout is the best way to go.

There's now a new local facility designed to help you "get your cardio on" and "kick" those extra pounds away.

When you think of kickboxing, you probably think of MMA style in the ring, but this workout is a little bit different.

It's a new way to burn calories, and it's growing worldwide.

"It's basically a great cardio workout; you learn basic kickboxing moves and you get a great hit workout at the same time," said Kim McFaline, studio owner and operator of

in Columbus, Ga.

Losing weight, gaining stamina, and even training for the military are all reasons why trainers say people are flocking to kick-box fitness in large numbers.

"It's for anyone, at any level, at any age."

That's because classes include personal workouts based on individual goals and your level of fitness.

Even if you're pregnant like McFaline, you can expect to lose up to 900 calories in an hour session.

opens its Columbus studio at 6516 Kitten Lake Drive Suite E8 on Saturday, June 13. For more information, visit their official website at this link.
