LUMPKIN, GA (WTVM) – Lumpkin Police Chief Randy Howard has announced his resignation. Howard says he is resigning to focus on his family and education.

Former Police Chief Javier Garcia will assume the interim position role.

Howard's resignation comes after certain city officials were under fire following the recent arrest of City Clerk Niya Williams and Mayor Charles Gibson.

Assistant Police Chief Jonathan Jackson was suspended on May 21 until the full investigation into the arrest is complete.
