Man fires shots at police officer in Valley, AL

VALLEY, AL (WTVM) – A police chase in Valley, AL Thursday morning ended with two arrests and drugs found in the car.

Barry Douglas Bland and Rebecca Lee Gallups were arrested after leading police on a wild chase. Valley Police attempted to pull the two over on 20th Ave. in the Shawmut area for switched tags. Bland was driving the car and refused to pull over and led police on a chase on I-85.

The driver fired several bullets at the police officers car, even hitting the radiator car and disabling the police car. Lanett Police joined in the pursuit after this.

The chase ended approximately 3:18 a.m. past County Rd. 177 when the suspect wrecked the car after crossing railroad tracks. The driver of the car fled on foot, while the passenger was taken into custody.

A short time later, a Deputy Sheriff saw the driver of the car hiding under a truck at a home near the intersection of County Rd. 117 and Cusseta Rd. The deputy approached the suspect and Bland fled on foot, but was caught and taken into custody.

While searching the suspect's car, police found marijuana, ICE methamphetamine, and several shell casings.

Barry Douglas Bland, of Valley, was already wanted by Valley PD on warrants for Felony unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. He now faces charges of attempted murder of a police officer, felony attempting to elude, and possession of a controlled substance.

Rebecca Lee Gallups, of Phenix City, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance.

Both suspects were transported to the Valley Police Department and will be taken to the Chambers County Detention Facility to be held pending bond.
