(WTVM) – Two local churches will hold prayer vigils on Wednesday in wake of the Charleston, SC shooting that took place Wednesday night.
St. John AME Church in Ft. Mitchell, AL will hold a prayer vigil at 6:00 p.m. CST. The church is located at 944 Hwy. 165 in Fort Mitchell, AL. Please call 334-855-4970 for more information on this vigil.
Another church in Columbus will hold a vigil at noon on Wednesday. St. James AME is located at 1002 6th Ave. in Columbus.
Earlier today, NAACP President Cornell William Brooks released the following statement detailing his outrage over the shooting, and condolences for the victims:
"Today, I mourn as an AME minister, as a student and teacher of scripture, as well as a member of the NAACP. The NAACP South Carolina State Conference and Charleston Branch have been working on the ground with police and the community to bring this case to a close. We remain vigilant while the local police and FBI investigate this hate crime and bring the shooter to justice."
All religious affiliations and the general public are invited.
