Garbage pickup a hot topic at mayor's forum

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Fountain City residents had the chance to bring their concerns and opinions directly to Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson.

Tomlinson held the second of her four "Let's Talk! With The Mayor" public forums Thursday night at North Highland Assembly of God.

Garbage collection was the big talking point as the city recently announced it is moving from twice-a-week collections down to once a week beginning September 15.

Starting July 6, garbage trucks in Columbus will also be collecting glass instead of recycling trucks.

"We were spending a great deal of money on recycling glass and there's not a big market for that, when indeed it was helping us in the crushed form in our landfill," said Mayor Tomlinson.

The next "Let's Talk! With the Mayor" forum will be held on September 17 at St. Luke Ministry
