Columbus Lions help feed the homeless

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Before they tackle their goal of winning a PIFL championship – starting this Saturday night – Columbus' arena football team the Columbus Lions spent part of their day tackling an important problem closer to home.

Lions football players spent Tuesday afternoon serving meals to homeless residents at the Valley Rescue Mission in Columbus. We talked to their coaches about the service project.

Coaches said it was great to be able to get out and give back to the community.

"It is a great opportunity for the Lions to come out and show their support for the community and we look forward to doing other things in the community," Columbus Lions assistant coach Allen Meek said.

As for the on the field action, the top-seeded Lions start their quest for a PIFL title with a battle this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Columbus Civic Center against #4 seed Lehigh Valley. The two teams split their matchups during the regular season.
