Animal welfare discussed at town hall meeting

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Taking care of animals and lowering the number dying in shelters were the top items at a town hall meeting in Columbus on Wednesday night.

The Columbus Consolidated Government Animal Care and Control Section hosted the meeting at the Citizen Services Center.

Target Zero Institute, which assesses communities with the goal of having a no-kill status, was at the meeting as well.

"We are so encouraged by the progress that we've seen in Columbus," said program director Dr. Sara Pizano. "There is collaboration amongst the large animal welfare organizations. That is light years away in many communities."

Leaders discussed all aspects of animal welfare including shelters, foundations, non-profits, and volunteers.
