3 things to know from News Leader 9 - Friday, June 26

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - From the WTVM News Leader 9 news desk, here are the three stories you need to know for Friday:

  1.  A Columbus police officer is in the hospital on Friday morning following this hit-and-run. Around 3 a.m. Friday, three cars were in the westbound lane here on Buena Vista Road facing I-185. The third car rear ended the officer knocking the patrol car into the car in front of them. The driver who hit the officer took off onto I-185 but damage to the car caused it to stop. The suspect then jumped out of the car and ran toward a wooded area northbound on the ramp right past this pawn shop. The driver of the first car is okay however the officer was taken to Midtown medical center with non-life-threatening injuries.
  2. Donald Castleberry is back behind bars after he escaped from the Georgia Department of Corrections Transitional Center in Troup County more than a month ago. He's serving a 10 year sentence for child molestation, theft by taking and bad checks. 
  3. A Smiths Station woman who was found guilty of murdering her husband in 2012 is sentenced to 30 years in prison. Tiffany Andrews was convicted on May eleventh of running over her husband Michael Andrews.

WEATHER: Some scattered showers are forecast for Friday and Saturday, but the rain could clear out for Sunday. Temperatures should be in the mid-90s throughout the weekend.
