TROUP COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - The Troup County Sheriff's Office confirms an officer-involved shooting happened in LaGrange around 12:05 a.m. on Monday.
According to officials, police responded to shots fired call to a home on the 3000 block of Hamilton Road off Hwy. 27 after a caller said a neighbor was shooting a gun
Officials say they came in contact with Terry Lee Caldwell, 60, who was sitting in his carport with a gun. Officers say Caldwell allegedly shot at the sheriff's deputy, who returned fire. Caldwell reportedly had an AK-47-style pistol that he fired twice at the responding deputy.
The deputy then fired four times at Caldwell, hitting him in the elbow and thigh. He was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with injuries that are not life-threatening, but his condition is unknown.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the incident, per protocol for officer-involved shootings.
The office wasn't injured during the incident.
