Marshal's Office offers security training for churches

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Muscogee County Marshal's Office has started offering evening training to churches and places of worship in light of the Charleston church massacre.

The training, titled "Do You Know Who's In Your Church?" comes after a recent report showed more than 60 percent of churches either did not have a security procedure in place or did not always follow it.

Muscogee County Marshal Greg Countryman says he wants to eliminate opportunities for an unwanted incident in churches and places of worship in our area.

"The doors of the church are always open," Marshal Countryman said. "So you really don't know who you are letting into the church. If your doors at home open were open, wouldn't you want to know who is coming into your home?"

For scheduling of training, you are asked to contact the Muscogee County Marshal's Office at (706) 225-4385.
