Swearing-in ceremony will help officials keep track of sex offenders

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

A ceremony was held Thursday on the pedestrian bridge in Phenix City.

The ceremony was a cross-border swearing in of officers in the Muscogee County and Russell County Sheriff's departments, along with the Phenix City Police Department and U.S. Marshals.

The ceremony now gives Sheriff’s Deputies the ability to move across state borders while monitoring and tracking sex offenders.

"The Columbus side and the Phenix City side investigators and deputies that are tasked with checking on the sex offenders will be able to handle that," said Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor.

Now these departments will be able to keep tabs on sex offenders who have registered within the bi-cities and those who have not.
