A unique cross-border swearing in took place on the pedestrian bridge in Phenix Thursday.
The event involved officers in the Muscogee County and Russell County Sheriff's departments along with the Phenix City Police Department and U.S. Marshal's.
The ceremony now gives Sheriff Deputies the ability to move across state borders while monitoring and tracking sex offenders.
"The Columbus side and the Phenix City side, the investigators and deputies, which are tasked with checking on the sex offenders will be able to handle that," says Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor.
Now these departments will be able to keep tabs on sex offenders who have registered within the bi-cities and those who have refused to register which is against the law.
