GDOT implements 'Drive Alert, Arrive Safe' campaign in Columbus

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - You may have seen the new sign over Interstate-185 heading towards Fort Benning.

It's a part of the Georgia Department of Transportation's "Drive Alert, Arrive Safe" campaign.

Georgia averages nearly 100 traffic deaths a month, which puts the state on track for over 1,000 traffic deaths this year.

Chairman of the Department of Transportation Don Grantham says the goal of the program is to get drivers to slow down and pay more attention.

If you're going to be behind the wheel this weekend stay safe. Take responsibility to protect yourself, your passengers, other drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists.
