Ready to Roar! Columbus Lions prep for PFIL Championship

Columbus Lions to take on Richmond Raiders (5 p.m.)

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Lions are back in the PIFL Championship for the first time since 2010 and are gearing up for their Monday night championship showdown with the Richmond Raiders.

The Lions are the league's top team with eight wins and three losses, and enter this game after playing one of their best offensive performances of the season in semifinal against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks.

We spoke to Head Coach Jason Gibson earlier this week, who said the team feels pretty relaxed and in control of their own destiny.

They've handled the Richmond Raiders twice during the regular season and now the Lions are seeing all three phases of the game clicking, which has been a big difference maker for this team.

Throughout the season we've seen great moments by the offense and a sluggish defensive performance, and we've seen the defense shine and the offense struggle.

Players tell us this team can be dangerous when they put it all together.

The showdown between the Lions and the Raiders is Monday, July 6 starting at 7 p.m. EST.

Sports Leader 9's Kim Smith is at the Columbus Civic Center following the game, and we'll have full details on the 11 p.m. news.
