Columbus Lions win PIFL title

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Lions turned on the afterburners in the second quarter to turn a 9-point deficit into a 64-38 win over the Richmond Raiders on Monday night to claim the PIFL Championship at the Columbus Civic Center.

The Lions trailed 24-15 at one point, but scored 22 unanswered points to take control of the game. The burst included Casey Kacz touchdown passes to Terrence Ebagua and Jarmon Fortson, a TD run by Kendrick Perry, and interceptions by Robert Caldwell and Marvin Ross, along with an uno by kicker Lindsey Wolfe.

Kacz was 16-of-26 passing for 187 yards and four TD's, two each to Ebagua and Fortson. Kendrick Perry added 46 yards rushing and three scores to earn PIFL Championship Game MVP honors.

Damian Thornton added a defensive touchdown in the third quarter with an 8-yard fumble return, scooping up a ball stripped from Raiders quarterback Jonathan Bane by Jerry Willis.

The title is the second in Lions franchise history, to go with the SIFL title in 2010.
