COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Muscogee County Marshal's Office has purchased body cameras for its deputies to wear.
The Marshal's office says the body cameras will increase transparency and result in improved behavior among both police officers and citizens.
Additionally, it will help document evidence that will aid in the prosecution of criminal cases and help resolve citizens' complaints.
The cameras are locked and video cannot be erased or edited.
"These days everybody videotaping us so we want to be transparent so may as well use ourselves to show transparency, we are not trying to hide anything," explained Sgt. Rick Bowers.
The cameras were purchased with Muscogee County Marshal's office salary savings and were issued June 25.
