COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Some changes are coming to a grocery store in Columbus, partly to keep you safe behind the wheel.
If you've gone to the Publix off Macon Road near Interstate-185 recently, you might have had a little more difficulty finding a place to park.
The store has closed off part of its parking lot to undergo construction.
A Publix employee tells News Leader 9 that construction started earlier in the week to begin digging up the ground. She says the store began the project to address the parking lot's odd design and a recent string of car accidents in the lot.
Vickie Smith, property manager of Cross Country Plaza, says there will be a new turn lane for access to Publix following the construction. The new design will enhance traffic flow and increase available parking.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of August.
