PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Budget review is under way in Phenix City for the 2015-2016 fiscal year.
The Phenix City Council propose a general fund budget during Tuesday's meeting.
Leaders say they want to be very conservative with the $34.5 million balanced general fund budget. They are expecting a flat sales tax next year with the exception of a new Neighborhood Walmart on Highway 80 - which is expected to open next year.
A proposed garbage fee increase of 8 percent is also on the table.
That would increase the price of a single can pick-up to $1.80.
It's the first proposed increase since 2008. Leaders also proposed increases for public safety workers and city employees.
