City councilman wants to clean up his district

A Columbus city councilman is calling on his district to involve them in some type of "Neighborhood Watch" organization. This step is to provide a safe environment for residents.

Jerry "Pops" Barnes says his biggest concern is the safety of the residents in District One. Barnes says residents must be the eyes and ears of law enforcement. He wants all the streets in his district to be involved in a Neighborhood Watch Organization.

Because of some reports of recent home burglaries, he says the watches would help prevent crime and code violations.  Barnes announced Friday, he is organizing a community meeting with officers of the Columbus Police Department and residents in his District on how to organize a neighborhood watch group and securing your home, and the things you need to look out for.

Anyone interested in learning more, is asked to come out a meeting Tuesday, July 21st at 6 p.m. at the Citizen Service Center in Columbus.
