COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Even after the flag was removed from the South Carolina state capitol and the Alabama statehouse grounds, the heated debate rages on over the Confederate flag.
One group of residents held a peaceful demonstration at the Walmart on Airport Thruway in support of the Confederate flag.
The debate has centered on the flag's symbolism. Many view the flag as a symbol of discrimination, but the participants in today's rally say contrary to what some might not say, they are promoting heritage and have no tolerance for discrimination.
"We don't promote slavery views like everyone thinks we do, or racism, we don't condone it, we don't support it and we don't have any tolerance for it. We all have black friends, white friends, Hispanic friends, Asian friends – we have everyone. We don't discriminate," rally attendant Anthony Quillen said. "Now every group has their fanatics, yes – but at the end of the day, you can't judge a whole group off a couple of people."
There were about 30 people on hand for Sunday's demonstration.
