NOTASULGA, AL (WTVM) - The Notasulga Police Department made a huge drug seizure in their community on Monday, July 20.
Police Chief Mike Knowles said they collected 71 growing plants, and bags of marijuana worth about $250,000.
Walter Lowrey, 45, was taken into custody at his home on 165 west College Street South.
"He actually had a manufacturing operation going in within the residence, with the growing lights, an irrigation system, and everything needed to have an indoor growth," Knowles said.
Knowles said residents could smell the odor from the street, prompting their investigation.
Lowrey is now charged with trafficking and unlawful manufacturing of marijuana in the 1st degree, both class A felonies.
Knowles said the suspect hasn't been in trouble in Notasulga before, but this was an elaborate operation.
"It appears he is very intelligent about growing marijuana and it appears he has been doing this for quite some time," Knowles said.
