PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Central High School in Phenix City received two big checks Monday that will help bolster the district's plans to expand the school and make it even more state-of-the-art.
Local donors presented school officials with two $50,000 checks. One check will help build the Chattahoochee River Systems room and the other the Salt Water Aquarium room. Both rooms will be part of the Dyer Family STEM Center at Central High.
Groundbreaking on the new center is scheduled for October and the project should be complete by August, 2016.
Over the summer, a grassroots organization called the Friends of Phenix City Schools launched a $1.1 million fundraising campaign to help improve and expand STEM programs in Phenix City schools.
