Back-to-school bash prepares students, families for first day of class

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – In a matter of just a few hours, parents will be putting students on the bus or taking them to school in Phenix City and Columbus.

On Sunday, a local group joined together at LakeBottom Park for a back to school event. About a hundred students and their parents enjoyed the fun while collecting free school supplies.

Bishop Kevin Legette, Sr., pastor of My Father’s House, said it was good to see all members of the community out to celebrate the beginning of the school year.

If you look around, you'll see so many diverse ethnicity's here. This is more than we anticipated actually. It's turning out the way God wanted it to be,” Legette said.

Christian musicians were also on hand to take part in the festivities and spoke their support of the youth in the community.

"My organization is all about helping the youth and doing the will of God, and we want the youth to know that somebody cares about them, because I know what it was like to be a struggling youth in this community,” said Trill 4 Life CEO Testify.

This free event also featured food, music and different vendors.
