AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Auburn University has announced a $1 million gift to endow scholarships for undergraduate students in the metro Atlanta area.
Officials said in a statement Thursday that the Goizueta Foundation's gift will fund scholarships for students graduating high schools in 10 Georgia counties. The counties are Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale.
"There is no greater gift than an education, and the Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund will allow Auburn to increase access to educational opportunities for more deserving students," said Cindy Singley, Director of Auburn University Recruitment.
"We are thankful to the Goizueta Foundation for investing in generations of future students and the impact they will have on the world as a result of their Auburn education," Singley said.
The Goizueta Foundation is based in Atlanta. The donation was received as part of the "Because This is Auburn" fund raising campaign which has a goal of raising $40 million to create new scholarships.
