The exiled duke is back in the fold on the Plains.
Senior wide receiver Duke Williams returned to the practice field on Thursday night in Auburn after being absent for a week.
Head coach Gus Malzahn suspended Williams for what was termed "discipline issues" last Friday.
After practice, Malzahn said that Williams did what he had to do to get back in his good graces but wouldn't elaborate on the offense committed or the penance performed.
As for Williams' place on the depth chart, he's gone from the penthouse to the outhouse and has begun the climb back to first team, but Malzahn stressed that Williams has a long way to go.
“Anytime you miss part of installs, obviously there's going to be some catching up to do,” said Malzahn, “but we've got guys that have been to practice that we feel very good about so he's in the process of earning his playing time like everybody else does, and he's going to have to play catch-up and he understands that.”
Saturday will be a big opportunity for Williams and everyone else when the Tigers hold their second scrimmage of the pre-season.
