AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – The famous Toomer's Corner reopened on Saturday – just in time for football season for Auburn students, fans and residents.
The reopening comes three months after construction crews began work on the $2.2 million revitalization and resurfacing project. There are wider sidewalks, outdoor seating and eating spaces – even built-in cell phone charging stations.
Now with this, along with the debut of the Jordan Hare Stadium jumbo video board, a lot of people believe this will take the game day experience to the next level.
"Auburn means a whole lot to use, [and] this intersection improvement just fantastic," Auburn fans Jack and Lydia Walls said.
"Toomer's Corner has never looked better than it looked today," Auburn fan Cathy Turner said.
On Monday morning, the city will host a blessing of the corning at 8:30 a.m. in front of Toomer's Drugs. On Friday, everyone is invited to come to downtown Auburn at 5 p.m. to enjoy free live music, sidewalk sales and a poker run.
