PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) – Several seniors in the area got the chance to learn some important tips when it comes to public safety.
Lt. Harold Smith with the Russell County Sheriff's Department conducted a class this Wednesday morning on personal safety.
It was held at the Central Activities Center in Phenix City. The program was part of Parkwood Health Care's Brunch and Learn.
One of the hot topics included an active shooter response training and what people should do during a mass shooting situation.
"I think our lives are so busy people forget about safety and they are in a hurry a lot, so we are trying to get them to slow down, pay attention to their surroundings, stay alert," Lt. Harold Smith Russell Co. Sheriff's Dept.
Lt. Smith says some criminals single out seniors because they are looked at as easy targets. You can contact the Russell County Sheriff's Department to schedule free classes on public safety.
