COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Local hairstylists are coming together to raise money for the funeral of a drowning victim known by many in Columbus.
Hernandez Wilson, 30, drowned in the Chattahoochee River at Rotary Park last week.
At least 200 people packed into Lamb's Funeral Home on Buena Vista Road for Wilson's viewing on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
On Thursday and Friday, several hair stylists are coming together at HAIR Kinections on Veterans Parkway to help raise funds for Wilson's funeral.
They encourage everyone to come out to be styled, and receive eyebrow care as well.
"We are here to support and show that the community does have each other's back," said braiding stylist Raven Fields. "We should come together and not depend on the government or the state to do everything for us when we can do a lot of things ourselves if we can just unite and people are willing to work for the cause and not for individual reasons."
All proceeds from their services and T-shirt sales will be donated to the Wilson family.
The funeral service for Wilson will be held Thursday, August 20 at 2 p.m. at Words of Wisdom Christian Center on 38th Street in Columbus.
HAIR Kinections is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
