ATLANTA (WTVM) – The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that the state unemployment rate has dropped, according to July statistics.
The unemployment rate for July dropped to 6 percent, down one-tenth of a percentage point from 6.1 percent in June. In July 2014, the state unemployment rate was at 7.2 percent.
According to State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler, it has been more than 7 years since the state unemployment was at this low a level.
The total number of jobs in the state increased to 4,252,200 in July, up by 4,600 from last month. The majority of this growth comes from local government, and business services.
The Columbus Metro area gained about 2,700 jobs in July.
