COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus woman in danger of losing her home is getting help from a Georgia program which helps those behind on mortgage payments.
Lawanda Jackson says after returning home from contract work overseas she had trouble finding a job. As a result, she fell behind six months on her mortgage. Jackson says she was at Goodwill when she noticed a flyer for HomeSafe Georgia.
The program helps unemployed and under-employed people pay their mortgage for up to 24-months.
Jackson called the number and was told she was eligible for the program. She also says without it, she would have lost her home where she and her son have lived for the past ten years.
"It's an excellent program not only that it's state funded. So the money is here in Georgia, but you just need to know the resources along with the agency and you need to know who to call to get into this program," Jackson said.
