COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Several heroes were recognized Tuesday by the Troup County Chamber of Commerce.
Public safety officials including police, the sheriff's department and emergency services were honored for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Recipients say they are grateful for the recognition.
The Valor Awards were created as a part of a week of remembrance for the attacks on the World Trade Center.
More than 470 public service members lost their lives that day.
