COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - On Tuesday, St. Anne Pacelli students gathered to donate more than 2,000 pairs of socks to needy families.
Students had a "sock hop" event as a reward for their efforts. They danced to classic rock and roll music on the school's football field.
The director of the school's outreach program says socks are the number one requested clothing item.
"All of our funds go primarily towards food, groceries or utilities," said Katie Buyers, Director of St. Anne Community Outreach. "So we don't spend money on socks and hygiene products. Those are considered luxury items to most of our clients. So this is a way we can give them a little bit extra that they might not normally get."
Last year the Saint Anne Community Outreach provided more than 3,800 families with a week of groceries.
