Tennis is becoming a top sport across the Chattahoochee Valley area.
The Cooper Creek Tennis facility in Columbus has 30 courts but that's not enough for the growing demand of people wanting to play tennis. The Columbus Regional Tennis Association thought of the possibility to expand the tennis courts at Cooper Creek almost nine years ago.
This year, CORTA finally broke ground to build 22 new courts to accommodate more tournaments and players from across the country. In a collaborative project, CORTA, Columbus State and the city of Columbus are raising 9 million dollars for the new courts.
There are already have 30 and people say they are excited for the new space. There are plans to have more tennis matches from Columbus State. The courts are expected to be finished in July 2016.
CORTA will be planning a groundbreaking ceremony in the future.
