LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Lee County Sheriff's Office investigators are in a wooded area in Salem, AL on Monday with cadaver dogs, where human skeletal remains were found in a wooded area off of Lee County Road 241 on Sunday.
Investigators are checking to see if the remains may belong to any unsolved missing persons.
The discovery, what appeared to be a human skull and other skeletal remains, was located in the creek bed northeast of Lee Road 241 in the Salem community by property owners.
The discovery was made Sunday afternoon. It is unclear if they are the remains of a man or a woman, or how long they have been there. Some clothing was found near the remains, but deteriorating.
No cause of death has been determined and the remains have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for further evaluation.
Lee County Sheriff's Office investigators and cadaver dogs are continuing their investigation of the area for more clues.
