Valley Rescue Mission starts holiday sign-ups

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  The annual sign-up for holiday food assistance and for Christmas toys will start on Monday, Sept. 28. at the Valley Rescue Mission. 

The Mission Chapel at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 29th Street will be open Monday through Friday for the next two weeks for families in need to register. The chapel will be open from 9 a.m. until 11 a..m and 1 p.n. until 3 p.m.

The Valley Rescue staff will also accommodate working parents who are unable to sign up during the week. Their sign-up schedule will be on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

"This is not about Valley Rescue Mission at all it is about that 1 and 5 that are below the poverty level. It is about the people that have no place else to turn. So that when people support Valley Rescue Mission, We can take those donations and help the least among us,” Mitzi Oxford said, Development Director of Valley Rescue Mission.

For food and toy assistance please bring your child's birth certificate, proof or lack of income, your current utility bills, your mortgage or rent and grandparents must have proof of child custody. 

This is an annual event and they are always taking donations.

    An inmate who escaped from the Troup County Jail has been taken into custody. Thomas Christopher Cuddington has been captured with the assistance of LaGrange Police Department.
