LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - This weekend, East Alabama residents are holding an annual memorial ride for a deputy, killed 6 years ago in the line of duty.
Former Lee County Sheriff's Department deputy James Anderson died doing what he loved on September 24, 2009.
Anderson went after a suspicious looking vehicle. The driver, Gregory Lance Henderson, pulled into a yard and turned around. Anderson followed and exited his patrol car, when the suspect put the foot on the gas, running Anderson over, crushing him.
Henderson was sentenced to death for the crime.
The ride for deputy Anderson will be held Sunday September 27 at 3 p.m. Riders will meet at Smith Station Junior High School.
