Vigil held for Columbus man missing for 6 months

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Just days before his birthday, loved ones of Joe Akridge joined together for a vigil in honor of the missing Columbus man.

He disappeared six months ago. He was last seen at the Dollar General near his house on Valleybrook Road.

Family and friends met in the Walmart Parking Lot on Buena Vista Road, holding out hope that he will return home soon.

"His birthday is Tuesday, also he'll be 54, so we're also out here to celebrate his birthday without him, having the cake, and letting the balloons go.  So that's what we're doing, we just want the community to know that Joe is still missing, we still want him to come home, we still need help with that,” Joe’s sister, Ruenell Akridge, said.

If you know of his whereabouts you’re asked to call the Columbus Police Department.
