FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - On Monday, Fort Benning welcomed the Infantry School's newest commandant and Chief of Infantry during a ceremony in McGinnis-Wickam Hall's Derby Auditorium.
Brigadier General Peter L. Jones will assume command as the 56th Chief of Infantry.
Among other things, Brig. Gen. Jones recently served as the Director of Future Plans, and International Security Assistance Force Joint Command.
"The big thing is we are dealing with a time of change," Brig. Gen. Jones said. "The draw down in the force with a complex environment along with security challenges all over the world. Fort Benning has always been the place where you start building soldiers leaders that are smart, lethal and fast."
During the ceremony, he touched on cutbacks that are coming to Fort Benning in the face of sequestration.
