Stuff the Bus campaign distributes school supplies

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

On Tuesday, United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley partnered with Publix to distribute about 2,000 school supplies.

The supplies, which were collected in a drive held earlier in the year, went to schools in Muscogee, Russell, Harris, Talbot and Taylor counties.

The supplies were also given to United Way partner agencies that have youth programs.

Earlier this year, United Way distributed more than 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to kids.

"This is the on top of our Stuff the Bus campaign and there are a lot of children in our area that just don't have the basic school supplies,” said United Way President Scott Ferguson. “Working with Publix and a lot of folks in the area this whole campaign has probably done over 50,000 in school supplies."

The campaign has raised more than $50,000 to help school children in the area.
