COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Wednesday marks "National Walk to School Day" and Wynnton Arts Academy and Safe Kids Columbus held a parade from Wynnton Methodist Church to the Wynnton Arts Academy.
Columbus High School's band led the march along with student and parents. The event also raised awareness for people to drive carefully while kids are walking to school.
"I think it's important to bring awareness to the community, we have so many children that walk to school. We're a neighborhood school and we want to make sure our children are safe every morning. We can't have a crossing guard on every corner so we want to make people who are driving on the streets aware that we have kids that walk and bike to school," Mary Thompson said, Media Specialist at Wynnton Arts Academy.
This is the tenth year they have participated in the National Walk to School Day parade, and there were around 200 people in attendance.
